At Pentecost, we do not celebrate what happened to Jesus. We commemorate how the Holy Spirit empowered His followers to go out into the world and make a difference. They were reminded that they had a mission, to bring the good news of God’s love to the world. The story is about how Jesus’ life and power are shared by humanity through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is revealed as one who transforms lives in a love that binds us to the Lord and to one another, embracing people of all races and languages, and who opens eyes to appreciate the wonders of God’s grace.
Even though we are God’s chosen people, we have often behave more like God’s frozen people. We seem frozen in our prayer life, frozen in the way we relate with one another, frozen in the way we celebrate our faith. Often in the church we are in a hurry to get it over and done with as soon as possible. Today is a great day to ask the Holy Spirit to rekindle in us the spirit of new life and enthusiasm. What examples have you seen in your family or your parish of people sharing the peace of Christ?
